Compared to my old scanner this machine is amazing as it is doing double sided scans so quickly, this is resulting in a substantial time saving. I simply ran the CD then attached the scanner to the PC and started to scan.
Its very easy to change scan settings and to save directly to folders on your computer.
I bought the scanner last September and it has probably paid for itself in time savings.
I am not very technilogically minded so the ease of set up and use is fantastic.
I would highly recommend this for small firms who scan all documents.

Am LOVING this scanner.
As previous reviewers have said it's very easy to setup. Great having Adobe Acrobat to be able to do clever things with pdfs too.
My wife and I are whizzy round the house feeding it with paper, newspaper cuttings, mail, kids artwork etc. Give us a few weeks and I hope to have got around to scanning the whole filing cabinet and then get rid of it. Our plan is to scan stuff in and then let our remote virtual assistance do the digital filing for us and extract any relevant information and enter into our tax return / remind us what needs actioning etc.
Here's a few tips for speedy and efficient scanning with this beauty (might save you an hour or 2 playing around):
1. DON'T use the OCR function when you scan. Just create PDF files for now - greatly speeds things up.
2. Setup a 'Dropbox' account, and create an 'Inbox' folder in it, which you set to be the default scan location.
3. Setup the scanning software to 'scan to file' rather than any of the software (e.g. scan to folder) that comes with the scanner. Otherwise, every document you scan, a window will pop up which you have to click OK in at least twice, which will slow things up. You just want to scan a document in and then sort it out later on. It WILL alert you if you've got a problem (e.g. pages stuck together) if you have set it to use the ultrasound sensor.
4. Do OCR batchwise later on using the ScanScap Organizer software that comes with it to OCR entire folders (and subfolders). The process runs in the background if you want, so it doesn't slow down your computer. Or run it overnight. The trick is to create a shortcut in the software to your inbox folder so that you don't have to create duplicates of everything in the scansnap folder.
5. So, now you should have a whole bunch of files with automatic names based on time, date etc. Then you can rename them, or better, get someone else to rename them and file them in sensible folders. You could use the software that comes with the scanner for this, but I don't usually like being tied into a particular piece of software for this sort of thing as it's not very future proof. To help your assistant you could quickly write on the paper itself stuff like: Business - Reports - 2011 Q4 to help them file it correctly.
Of course, even better would be to get your office junior to scan everything in, saving you even more time. I am training my 5 year old! :) However, I would advise playing around with it for 30mins to 1 hour first and making sure that you / they understand how to use it best. For now, I'm quite enjoying doing the scanning myself - very satisfying! Even better when you shred it it afterwards (I went and bought a good shredder too!).
The tips I've outlined above should save you some time. If you are not using a remote assistant, obviously you don't need the dropbox option. Do make sure you back up the files somewhere though.

Absolutely brilliant! First day with the s1500 and i have completed a days worth of scanning in about an hour. Really pleased with the scanner and the service offered by trade scanners - will definitely be recommending to colleagues.

What an amazing scanner the Scansnap S1500 is. We are very impressed with the compact nature of the product and the speed at which it processes. It has been such a boon to the business and made life much easier all round.

First of all I'd give it a 5 out of 5.
I had a massive filing cabinet with 10 years worth of paperwork in it and it was full. I was going to sort through it and get rid of the old stuff when i thought hey why not just ditch the lot! Importantly I wanted to keep all my records, so i had to find a quick and easy way to digitalise my life. That's where the ScanSnap came in! I was looking for a autofeed duplex scanner and was horrified at some of the prices that i came accross. The scansnap was very reasonable for it's functionality and I was impressed with the speed. Even faster that what was quoted i believe. I managed to scan my entire filing cabinet in my evenings over a couple of weeks. Now I am paper free and i love it!

Firstly it was a pleasure doing business with your company, the advice on which scanner to choose was a great help. Prompt delivery too.
The Scansnap S1500 is a great machine, is certainly serves its purpose, small and compact, takes up little room on the desk, easy to use for the non- technical in the office!!
A great machine I would highly recommend to any office.

Great value product that does exactly what we need it to do !

The Snapscanner is the best thing since sliced bread. I have moved from a world of paper overload to organised folders with all my documents stored in PDF documents.
The ability to scan in 40 pages at a time mean everything from deeds of the house to my phone bills are all stored electronically !
It looks a tad expensive compared with other products but its well worth the extra cost, its very well constructed and should last a long time, highly recommended - it does require atleast 1gb of memory on your pc/laptop to work correctly.

This is not the first Fujitsu scanner we have bought and we have been very happy with this model's predecessors and with other Fujitsu scanners. We bought this scanner as a one-for-one replacement for a ScanSnap FI 4110 EOX2 purchased a few years earlier.
Clearly, it is the software possibly more than the hardware which makes a good scanner. The ScanSnap S1500 is an excellent model which is much better at scanning colour and (especially) greyscale documents.
The automatic colour recognition (colour/ greyscale/ black and white with adjustable darkness) works very well, the resulting image quality is good and the file sizes are agreeably small. In our opinion this is the biggest single improvement and the scanner is thus very good at scanning a wide variety of A4 and smaller documents in one quick go. There are also other improvements (text embedding, character recognition) which we use less extensively.
Like its predecessor, this scanner takes up little space. It is a little faster than its predecessor and, while it is also more expensive than the previous model was, it has been well worth the additional outlay.
5 out of 5.

I wouldn't normally bother but it's a great bit of kit and worthy of mention - here goes:
The scanner is a great bit of kit and one we couldn't work effectively without. It has saved us a fortune in print costs because most of what we do is scanned and emailed. It was worth every penny and already paid for itself in less than 2 months.
ScanSnap S1500 description
Organizing with the ScanSnap S1500 happens at the touch of a single button. All this intelligent technology working behind the scenes ensures your PDF or JPEG files look their best automatically.
There's speed and then there's speed with quality. The ScanSnap S1500 has been engineered to deliver even faster performance with up to 20 pages per minute in color, grayscale, or black & white; however, S1500 remains just as fast when scanning at a higher resolution of 200 and even 300 dpi color or grayscale.
ScanSnap S1500 has several automatic features to help ensure scans look their best without operator intervention before or after they scan.
Auto Color, Black & White and now, Grayscale detection
Auto Page Size Detection
Auto Crop and De-skew
Auto Content-based Rotation
Auto Quality: ScanSnap S1500 can now be set to detect small documents intermixed in a stack placed into the automatic document feeder and automatically increase their resolution to help ensure that the finer-print typically associated with smaller documents (such as receipts and business cards that are shorter than A6) are made more discernable.
ScanSnap S1500 is now equipped with an ultrasonic multi-feed detection sensor that can be turned on to help operators avoid losing images. What's more, an interactive interface allows users to easily and quickly bypass intentional double-feeds such as a taped-receipt on an expense report.
Operators can create their own profiles or quickly access all the powerful features of ScanSnap from the centralized Quick Menu. Just scan and choose a function to quickly transition from one scanning intention to the next.
ScanSnap Organizer 4.0:
View, manage, and edit PDF and JPEG files scanned with ScanSnap on a windows platform. Organizer allows users to convert scanned PDF files into searchable content, embed custom keywords, distribute to email or SharePoint, and remain productive with paperwork long after it is scanned.

ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap 4.0 PC Edition:
Windows users can now achieve even greater productivity by converting paperwork into editable text by scanning directly into Microsoft® Word and Excel at the touch of a button.
